A piece of Cork for our international visitors

- Written by EIL Ireland -2014.

In April, we hosted the General Assembly of Federation EIL. The General Assembly was held in Cork and we welcomed over 80 international delegates during the week long event. Eventhough the agenda was quite intense (there was a lot of work to get done), we managed to spare some time for our visitors to enjoy Cork, its food, music and people.

“We were delighted to work with Cork artist, Siobhain Steele, graduate of the Crawford College of Art and Design, on a very bespoke gift for our delegates. Siobhain’s message on a bottle is a novel take on the traditional message in a bottle. We love Siobhain’s work, which is inspired by “the abstract line and pattern found in the lush natural landscape surrounding my studio in Rathcormac, County Cork.”

We asked Siobhain to craft a bottle with a message from Donald Watt, founder of EIL and we felt the message, Peace, one friendship at a time was very fitting. Each of the Federation EIL General Assembly delegates received one of these bottles and they were thrilled to have this little piece of Cork.

Peace, one friendship at a time.
Donald Watt, Founder of EIL

Kevin speaks about the significance of this quote. Each Host Family and Local Coordinator received this message on a bottle, made by Cork Ceramicist Siobhain Steele.
